About Toxic Sofa

Toxic Sofa, based in Bracknell, Berkshire, are Kim Halliday and Tim Bastock. Tim has been playing guitar for some 45 years and is also an experienced bassist, having played in a variety of local bands and for musicals and pantomimes. Kim has a mainly musical/theatrical background, although she has sung at festivals such as Glastonbury and Rewind and on Saturday prime time TV. She has also played bass guitar for the past 7 years for a church rock band.

After meeting and watching Folk Comedy legend Richard Digence perform at South Hill Park in Bracknell, Berkshire, Kim was inspired to start writing and recording songs with her partner, Tim, drawing on the more humorous aspects and observations on life. Two of these songs have been professionally recorded and mastered by the genius that is Mr Chris Payne, early keyboards player for Gary Numan and also co-writer of Visage's 'Fade to Grey'. The Toxic Sofa repertoire also includes covers of songs not normally associated with the 'Acoustic Duo' genre - songs originally performed by the likes of Blondie, Soft Cell, Ultravox, Visage, Gloria Gaynor, and Fred Wedlock (and it not often you'll see those names in the same sentence!)

Toxic Sofa were formed on 19th May 2015 with the aim of playing acoustic sets at festivals and events. We have in mind to expand the band in the fullness of time; while it works well with just the two of us, we'd like to add a percussion element (Cajon, for example), and maybe another stringed instrument player.
